In 2026, St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Toronto celebrates its 100th anniversary — a milestone with special significance for the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch!

Our Museum’s history is closely connected to the Cathedral and its community. Established in 1944 by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, Toronto Branch, our first home was at St. Volodymyr Cathedral on Bathurst Street. From those early beginnings, the Museum and Cathedral have shared a longstanding commitment to preserving and celebrating Ukrainian heritage in Canada.

On July 24, 2026, as part of its Centennial celebrations, St. Volodymyr Cathedral presented the Museum with a limited-edition, 12-colour, Commemorative Pysanka, created on a turkey egg by artist and Cathedral parishioner Irene Chewchuk. Inspired by the Cathedral’s distinctive architecture and Cossack Baroque interior, the pysanka commemorates one hundred years of faith, community, and cultural continuity.

We are honoured to welcome this special artifact into the Museum’s collection, where it will preserve a tangible connection to our earliest history and to a relationship that has endured for more than eight decades. Accepting the pysanka on behalf of the Museum were Past-President Claudia Mykytiuk and Treasurer Marta Bozdek, both longtime members of the Museum and St. Volodymyr Cathedral.
