Making a Museum

Building a show of this size and scope is a daunting task. The sheer volume of the archive and the variety of artifacts could be overwhelming. Our design and curatorial team took this all in stride to build a fulsome and immersive experience in the gallery and beyond.

Anna Harasym and Andrew Waller, our Design team, worked closely with our guest curator, Myroslava Boikiv, and Museum staff to realize a comprehensive exhibition that was both immersive and informative. Carefully crafted graphics and design material reflected the energy and rustic atmosphere of the Kosiv Bazaar.

Myroslava envisioned a two-part show: one part reflecting the market itself, where many items on display are sourced naturally, and a second, more formal section showcasing items to highlight their quality and artistry. Given the constraints of the existing gallery, the team drew inspiration from the Kosiv market and the artworks themselves. Colours from the landscape and works were incorporated into the promotional design and gallery walls. The gallery itself was divided into two clearly delineated spaces. One that takes on the physical market, with stalls and tables laden with goods. The second, larger, more open space where individual pieces can be appreciated on their own or in curated groups.

The team examined every aspect of the exhibition to reflect both the works on display and the eclectic energy of the Kosiv Bazaar, both historically and in its contemporary form.
