Not all Museum treasures come from the distant past. This year, we unpacked Mama’s boxes for a nostalgic look back at Ukrainian-Canadian style in the 1960s and ’70s, when embroidery adorned everything from home décor and handbags to the ubiquitous a-line dress.
This lighthearted exhibit features a recreated living room as well as clothing, accessories and household items, set to a backdrop of music from vinyl LPs. The opening reception takes the form of a swinging house party, with prizes for the best Ukrainian-Canadian vintage outfits. A gallery of wedding photos and invitations from the ‘60s and ‘70s will have you guessing at faces. Get out your bell-bottoms and join us. It will be fab.
Exhibit Opening: Friday, September 20, 2019
