Everything Old is Cool Again:
Groovy Vintage Fashion from the Ukrainian Diaspora
Date: Friday, September 20, 2019 - Saturday, February 29, 2020
Not all Museum treasures come from the distant past. This year, we unpacked Mama’s boxes for a nostalgic look back at Ukrainian-Canadian style in the 1960s and ’70s, when embroidery adorned everything from home décor and handbags to the ubiquitous a-line dress.
This lighthearted exhibit features a recreated recreation room as well as a treasure of unique clothing, accessories and household items, set to a backdrop of music from vinyl LPs. A gallery of wedding photos and invitations from the ‘60s and ‘70s will take you down memory lane.
Please join us for a swinging house party, with prizes for the best Ukrainian-Canadian vintage outfits. Get out your bell-bottoms and let yourself “groove” to live entertainment featuring singer Elana Balaura and Glen Nerona on keyboard. Music will include jazz, Ukrainian folk classics and hits of the ‘60s and ‘70s. It will be fab!
Entrance by donation includes complimentary appetizers. Wine and cocktails will be available for purchase.
Exhibit Opening: Friday, September 20, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
