Canada Day is a time to celebrate the many threads that weave together the fabric of our nation — including the enduring legacy of Ukrainian immigrants who arrived over 130 years ago, carrying with them trunks filled with hope, resilience, and cultural heritage. Their contributions helped shape Canada, one story and one community at a time.

Today, Ukrainian Canadians continue to enrich and define our national identity. As we reflect, we are prouder than ever to be part of Canada’s unfolding story.

Stitch the Museum 🪡

Introducing Stitch the Museum — a series of instant-download embroidery patterns that offer a creative and inspiring way to explore Ukrainian culture through the timeless art of embroidery.

This unique resource invites you to learn traditional Ukrainian patterns while discovering the provenance and stories behind them. Each pattern is inspired by an artifact from the Museum’s collection and comes with beginner-friendly cross-stitch instructions — perfect for both new and experienced stitchers alike.

Embroidery has a rich history across cultures, and in Ukraine, it’s more than decoration — it’s an ancient folk art and a symbol of identity and regional heritage. Today, it’s also a calming, hands-on activity that offers a screen-free, creative way to connect with culture, especially during the slower pace of summer.

The first three patterns are available now and accessible anywhere. This series will continue to grow and feature new patterns drawn from the Museum’s rich collection and upcoming exhibits. Proceeds from this project support the Museum’s educational and cultural programming.

Making a Museum – The Photographic Exhibition

What’s in a photograph? A moment in time, a face, a feeling — a glimpse into the people who shaped our story. While working on Making A Museum, we discovered several boxes of vintage slides in our archives, revealing not just events, but the volunteers, visitors, and community members who brought our Museum to life over the past 80 years.

We knew we had to share these rediscovered memories in a special exhibit — a tribute to the people and moments that built our history, one photo at a time. Making a Museum – The Photographic Exhibition will be on view in our gallery space from July 15 until August 22, 2025, offering a special, fleeting chance to connect with these memories before we prepare for our next exhibition this fall. We look forward to sharing this intimate glimpse into our history with you in person! 📸

World Embroidery Day! 🌎

Did you know July 30 is World Embroidery Day? Join us at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch on Wednesday, July 30, as we celebrate this global day of stitching, creativity, and connection.

Drop in anytime for all-day embroidery circles in the lobby — bring an unfinished project, start something new, or try your hand at one of our Stitch the Museum patterns (kits will be available in the Boutique!). Workshops and special activities will be announced soon, so stay tuned! 🧵
