UMCO • 2025 in Review

In 2025, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch continued its work of exploring the past and embracing the future, bringing Ukrainian stories into dialogue through exhibitions, programs, and community engagement. These shared moments affirmed the ongoing relevance of Ukrainian culture and history in today’s diverse society, as well as the Museum’s role in fostering understanding across generations and communities.

This past year, we expanded our community by welcoming over 2,000 visitors – 24% more than in 2024 – and were honoured to host more than 20 tour groups from across the GTA, Canada, and Europe, along with many special guests from Ukraine. Visitors explored our exhibitions, participated in programs, and experienced the richness of Ukrainian culture in the heart of downtown Toronto. Our collection also grew to over 9,000 pieces, including 183 beaded artifacts and 200+ pieces of embroidery, sculptures, coins, metalwork, and artwork generously donated from various estates, further enriching the stories we share.

None of this would have been possible without our passionate staff and dedicated volunteers, and the support of our generous donors. Thank you for helping UMCO thrive, grow, and continue sharing Ukrainian stories – stories that connect us, enrich our community, and celebrate the vitality of Ukrainian culture in today’s world. 🙏

Our 2025 programs and community engagement highlights included:

• Workshops, lectures, book launches, and events that brought new perspectives and voices to the Museum

• Two seasonal markets, co-hosted with SVI, which strengthened community ties and served as vital fundraisers for the Museum

• Connecting with Toronto’s Ukrainian community at the BWV Toronto Ukrainian Festival

• Learning from peers and community leaders at the Ukrainian Heritage Consortium of North America conference in Saskatoon and the 2025 UCC Triennial Congress in Toronto

• Deepening connections with fellow museums in Toronto
