This is a war not only on land, but on the soul of a people, with cultural heritage deliberately being targeted. Since February 2022, over 500 museums, galleries, libraries, and other cultural sites across Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed (unesco.org); tens of thousands of artifacts looted or illegally removed. Each loss is an attempt to erase memory and sever the link between a people and their history. Yet, the Ukrainian spirit endures. Despite relentless aggression and destruction, curators, archivists, and cultural workers continue their quiet, vital mission โ safeguarding artifacts, preserving collections, and defending the truth of a nation. Culture survives because it lives in the hearts of the people โ it cannot be bombed out of existence. As Canadians and members of the Ukrainian diaspora, we each carry the responsibility to keep Ukrainian history, art, and culture alive. Through advocacy, traditions, and education, we ensure that our heritage endures and inspires the wider world. Four years on, Ukraine stands. And we stand with her. Together. ะะะะะะะะ. ๐ช๐๐
