A Meaningful May at the Museum!

As we wrap up a busy and inspiring Museum Month, we’re filled with gratitude for the community that continues to support and celebrate Ukrainian culture with us!

On International Vyshyvanka Day, our visitors and volunteers blended beautifully with our exhibit, dressed in traditional vyshyvanky that amplify the richness of Ukraine’s embroidery.

We also launched our Spring Workshop Series with two hands-on sessions that brought people together to learn, create, and celebrate Ukrainian folk arts. Our June workshops are filling up — be sure to register soon, including our Motanka Doll Workshop this Sunday!

Our Museum also participated in the Spring Tea Fundraiser at St. Demetrius Orthodox Church in Etobicoke, hosted by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, Sophia Rusova Branch. All proceeds supported the Every Child Deserves a Future campaign of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. Our display of children’s toys and traditional clothing added a special touch to the event.

Coming Up in June…

June is your last chance to see our exhibition, Making a Museum, which closes on Friday, June 27. This exhibit tells our origin story—who we are, when we began, and how the Ukrainian Museum of Canada Ontario Branch came to be. It also highlights the stories behind some of our rarest artifacts and the dedicated people who preserved them. Contact us to book a group tour or school visit in the coming weeks.

Our gallery space will be open during our upcoming Motanka and Hearts for Ukraine workshops, as well as the Baba Yaga’s Palette lecture—offering extra opportunities to view this legacy exhibition. After June, we’ll begin preparing for our next exhibition, inspired by the legendary Kosiv Bazaar — a tribute to the sights, sounds, and spirit of the Carpathian Mountains.
