Spring Awakenings:
Community, Culture, & Style at the Museum

Last weekend, together with St.Volodymyr Institute, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada Ontario Branch hosted our annual Spring Market, attracting hundreds of visitors to our Ukrainian home in downtown Toronto.

Guests explored our current exhibition Making a Museum, which depicts the Museum's 80-year history with rarely seen artifacts and their extraordinary stories. Shoppers browsed a marketplace brimming with Ukrainian books, unique gifts, and vyshyvanky, while others hunted for vintage Ukrainian embroidery and treasures at the Baba's Treasures table.

Our workshops offered visitors a chance to learn the intricate art of writing pysanky (ukrainian Easter eggs), while the SVI Café provided a welcoming space to reconnect with old friends over coffee or a comforting bowl of soup. In particular, the pickle soup was such a hit that many returned the next day just for another bowl!

We look forward to kicking off the spring season each year with this annual event, reconnecting with old friends and welcoming new ones into our vibrant community. This event is made possible by the hard work and passion of our incredible volunteers, who pour their time and energy into every detail, ensuring it’s a warm and memorable experience for all. 🙏 Thank you!

Take a time machine to Soviet Ukraine with us this weekend

Join us on Sunday, April 6, for an exciting and unique multimedia seminar, Behind the Iron Curtain: Making Soviet Fashion in Ukraine 1945-1991, presented by Dr. Olha Korniienko. This exciting event will explore the fascinating history of fashion in Soviet Ukraine, shedding light on the creative and cultural influences that shaped the era. Dr. Korniienko will also delve into the fashion of the Ukrainian diaspora, providing valuable insights into the connections between Ukraine and its global community. Co-hosted with St. Volodymyr Institute and the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre.
